Team GTR RB26/30 Engine Build Progress
After 2 years of drag racing at Santa Pod it was time to upgrade the 2.6 litre displacement for a 3 litre engine. The engine build is in progress, spec below slideshow
Block Preparation:
- Core plugs removed and block soda blasted then hot washed after machining work.
- Bored +0.5 mm.
- Block decked by 10 thou (not because it had an issue, but to ensure the finish was suitable for the head gasket).
- Block modified to accept RB26 head bolts (larger than Rb25/30)
- Block and bore scrubbed by hand with cleaning solution until completely clean.
- Tomei 0.5 mm oil restrictors fitted in head oil feed, centre feed blocked.
- Drilled and tapped to accept twin cam style tensioners
Crank Preparation:
- All journals polished.
- Dynamically balanced, with front pulley, clutch and flywheel.
- Nose of crank machined for interference fit of JUN oil pump drive collar.
- Genuine JUN crank collar fitted and grub screwed.
Specification:
Bottom end
- Rb30 Block bored +0.5mm
- Balanced crank
- ACL Race Main bearings (all clearances checked with plastigauge)
- ARP Main bearing cap bolts
- Spool forged conrods, balanced end to end.
- ACL Race Big End bearings.
- ARP rod bolts
- Tomei oil restrictor
- JUN drive collar
- JUN oil pump
- Rips Racing AWD Sump adaptor
- Trust sump extension
- Genuine N1 water pump + genuine Nissan water pump gasket
- New core plugs (from Nissan)
- New RB25 Front pulley bolt
- New thermostat
- Polished thermostat housing
- New RB26 Pilot bearing installed
Head
- Good condition RB26 head as a base.
- 1.6 mm Cosworth multi layer steel head gasket
- HKS Cam gears
- Tomei High lift inlet camshaft IN280°- 11.50mm
- Tomei High lift exhast camshaft EX280°- 11.50mm
- Tomei Solid Valve lifters
- Tomei Valve Springs
- Tomei Titanium Valve Spring Retainers
- Supertech oversized valves 1mm
- Supertech Bronze valve guides
- Spool head drain kit
- ARP RB26 Cylinder heap stud and nut kit
- Head skimmed to ensure flat and suitable for head gasket
- Head ported and polished by Chesman Motorsport (over £1500 worth of work), this is a very special head.
- New Nissan valve stem oil seals
- Genuine Nissan gaskets and seals (i.e Crank, cam, water pump)
- Genuine Nissan cambelt tensioners
- Modified lower cambelt cover (extended to suit RB30)
- Squish pad removed on exhaust side as per NISMO
- Combustion chambers smoothed and balanced
Planned work
Once the engine is back at Team GTR HQ we'll be adding some extras to the engine build.
- A very special Turbo, using HKS T51 Kai casing and custom 'top secret' internals
